Well Mr. WOW I don’t know if all you have to say, is that you “return sheepishly” –  becuse I can’t get any kind of further dialogue to download.   Nevertheless, I’m glad to see even that minimal comment because like all your other fans, I have wondered what became of you.
Long time. . . no hear.  We get worried.
Maybe to-morrow the computer will be more generous in releasing your commentary.
     Lauriate.

I could not get your blog either, Mr Wow.  I hope this glitch is fixed soon because I need to know what’s going on with you.  At least we heard something from you.  I, like Lauriate, continue to worry.  Mary

  • Hi Mr. Wow!  Um – your article appears not to have posted.  Hopefully you compose in a word processor and can re-post easily?  If not – if you compose in WordPress- if you think the article was accidentally eaten, look in drafts and trash.  May be in one of those spots.

    Looking forward to your latest!

I was about to call United and make my reservations…

    11:26 pm | August 2, 2012
    • Ha!  Snooks, what would you do upon arrival?

      12:52 am | August 3, 2012
  • Mr. Wow

Well, you see, I’ve never actually done this all on my own. B. is the computer guy.   He  set up the site.  And Tho I’ve asked him repeatedly to write down exactly what I have to do to post, he never does.  He…just shows me, even tho he knows I’ m rather slow on the uptake.  Slow to the point of idiocy.  He’s tried  to ignore this.  Which is kind of like WWD ignoring Elizabeth Taylor in hot pants.

I attempted to do this myself, and apparently almost got it—I got the title in, anyway.

You see,  B. didn’t think much of my post. I didn’t know this  until  hours after I got home. I’d left “work” early to have  a pleasant  time with a friend.  I sent B. the post and asked him to run it, barring any glaring grammatical or spelling errors.  (I can neither  spell nor punctuate, as you all know.)   I was even choosing pictures!    B. says, finally, “are you mad?”  This is well into the evening.  After he made his fabulous chili.

    “Why would I be mad?

“Because I didn’t like your post.”

     (pause) “Oh.” (longer pause)

“I sent you an e-mail about it, Wow.”

    “I.  Missed.  It.”

“Ah, well. What do you want to do about it?”

    “Nothing”

“Don’t you want to rewrite it?’

    (Huge major pause) “No.”

“Oh.”  (After 36 years the whole concept of  witty Noel Coward interaction falls by the wayside.)

Now, truth to tell, this  now phantom post  is nothing more than  a fairly brief apologia for having been away so long and–bah, blah.  No big whoop.  Not clever. But I was feeling guilty.  I’ve been depressed.  I know.  Big shock there.

Did I go look at it again?  Yeah.  Did I rewrite slightly?  Yeah.  But I would have  anyway, as I have often have  in the past, looking over my crap.  Also the dialog I have have after the post is always so much more interesting.   Would have preferred if B. had said to me instantly as I got home, “didn’t like your post.” Of course, he thought I’d seen his e-mail.   At cross  purposes!  And so, all huffy and insulted and determined to be a big boy and post my  own post,  I spent the better part of two hours trying to recall all B, had shown me (many times)    Did I do the truly adult thing?  “I want to post this.  People will tell me what they think.”   Either do it for me, or write it down.”     (The latter being  more adult.)

What would I have really liked?  The post up, B’s critique later, and possibly revamping  what was not exactly a scintillating 200 words.

    In a a coma yet?

Maybe I’ll run it.  Maybe I’ll just run the pictures.  All of which are very cute.  You wouldn’t know my name.  And wouldn’t know my face.  But….at least least you’d know it.

    Anyway, I’m still here.

    And I love you all.

    Mr. Wow

    • Ah, there you are!  Want instructions?  You have a WordPress blog.  I have a WordPress blog.  Send me a note if you like and I can jot down a step-by-step.

      12:48 am | August 3, 2012
      • Mr. Wow

Dear Lila…it’s so bad of me to say yes, but…why should  I stop now?  What I need is the step by step to post.  What I do (what B. does)  is turn a document into a post.  Maybe that is more difficult?  It sure is for for me!

        1:01 am | August 3, 2012
        • Here we go:  First, highlight this whole comment using your mouse, right-click, and click “copy”.  Then go to your word processing program, open a new document, right-click in the new document, and click “paste.”  Save the document for later reference.

Once that’s done, you might want to delete this comment, so: at the bottom of each comment, when you are logged in to your blog, you should see “Edit” as well as “Reply.”  Click “Edit.” A new view opens.  Look to the upper right for a red-text “Move to trash” and click that to get rid of this comment.

Now, posting:  first a caveat:  since we are using different themes on our blogs, there may be some slight differences in how the buttons and windows appear, but it should be pretty close, so read on!

When logged in to your blog, hover your mouse over the upper left of the screen where it says “Mr. Wow Blog.”  A pull-down menu should appear.  Move down to “New” and then over to “Post.”  Your add-new-post window appears.

In your word processed document, highlight your title, right-click and click “copy,” then go back to your blog and in the box where it says “Enter title here,” right-click and click “paste.”  Or, you can just type the title in that box.

Do the same with the text of your document: highlight all, right-click, copy, then right-click and paste in the composition box of the new-post page.  (Notice, there are two tabs on the top right of that box:  Visual, and Text.  Make sure you have the “Visual” tab selected, that will show roughly what the post should look like.)

Okay, now you want some pictures:  inside the composition box on your blog, put your cursor in the spot where you want the picture.  Maybe at the end of a paragraph.  Then click the upper left of the composition box, where it says “Upload/Insert.”  A window opens with a button in the middle of it:  Select files.  Click that.  A Windows file upload window opens.  In that, navigate to the photo you want to use and select it, then click “open.”  It uploads to your blog, yay!  Not done yet, though:  in the blog window, scroll down and you will see some stuff about link URL and alignment.  At “Link URL,” it’s best to click “none,” if it’s just a picture inside an article, so do that.  Then for alignment, I find it’s best to start with “center” and “medium.”  Then click “Insert into post” at the bottom of that window.

The window closes and you are back to the composition box, but now you should have a picture.  If you want it bigger or smaller, you can just click on it, and you will see little white squares appear at the corners and sides of the pic.  Those are handles.  Grab a corner handle by clicking and holding with your mouse and push the corner in or pull it out to re-size until you like it.

If it ends up in the wrong spot, just right-click, choose “cut,” then move your cursor to the spot where you want the pic and right-click, then “paste.”

NOW, just to be certain you have what you want:  in the upper right of the screen, under “Publish,” there is a “Preview” button.  Click that and you will get a new tab / page opened  showing what the post will look like.  Take a look, then close that and either make adjustments, or if you liked it, and want to publish, click the blue “Publish” button.

Quick question which you can ignore, since it’s really none of my business;  Does B. call you “Wow?”

      • TheRudeDog

(Or does he just say that to you when you walk past looking particularly cute?)  🙂

  • Jamie

Run it  and run the pictures too. Please. If only you could know the time of it I’ve been having lately.

Your misery makes me laugh at life, it’s foibles, and makes me feel less alone. Run the original. We miss your honesty! Don’t you know that by now? You say what some of us (me) wish we could say. X0Jamie

    12:43 am | August 3, 2012
    • Mr. Wow

Dear Jamie…Well, if I can make heads or tails of Lila’s instructions I will post the original.  Oh, but I don’t know how to do pictures!   I’ll find out.

But you’ll see, it’s very “meh.”  Just a lot of apologizing and saying all of your problems are worse than mine, etc.    Sorry you’ve been having having hard time.   I am sure you’d trade your travails for mine.

      1:08 am | August 3, 2012
  • Susan

    Nothing you write is “meh”.
Post it….I so enjoy your writing.

Very glad you are out and about. ALl your readers were going to start a “worry club.”

  • lulu

Thank goodness you are back, even if not as planned!!!  Trust me you don’t want your ‘worry club’ arriving at your front door. (And I have complete confidence that with all of us putting our heads together we would find you and B)  So try to convince B posting your writing is essential to keep the ‘mobs’ away from your front door.  Also, there are times when just apologizing and vetching are good for anyone’s soul.

Glad to hear everything is well, Mr. Wow.  So the price you pay for capturing our hearts is we whip ourselves into a paranoid frenzy when you’re not minding the store. 🙂  Even your blogging snafus are fun.

Dear Jonny…hopefully I will be all grown up the next time I write something and will suceed in actually getting the damn piece into print.  Or whatever this is.

  • TheRudeDog

Why in the world would you think we’d not be interested in what you have to say?  (I know the answer to that, but just bear with me.)  You’re gonna have to get yourself a dose of Better-Self-Image, and the only thing that got ME to that place was time.  No, I didn’t finally come to the conclusion that I’m terrific … I came to the conclusion that I yam what I yam and that there are a lot of people who are OK with that … also a lot more who aren’t.  But that’s OK because the people who are important to me are on my side.

Mr. WoW, come on.  It’s not a character defect to feel that there are a lot of people out here who like you, like what you have to say, like the discussions you whip up, like the opportunities you give us to sometimes be witty, or look inward, or look outward to people here who think like we do, who enjoy having discovered a kindred spirit among all the idiots out there.

The minute you start judging what you’ve prepared to post for us (aside from punctuation & grammar!), you’re assuming that we’re going to judge you!  Nope!  Being non-judgmental is what got us this far with you, and you with us.

You just keep putting one foot in front of the other  — if you look back over your shoulder, you’ll see every damn one of us waving at you & cheering you on.  Damnit!

Be sure to post a pic of your front door.  Just in case. So I only have to embarrass myself with a cab driver.  “Find this house…”  Whether it’s you or B doing the posting, well, we miss your posts. And stories. And observations.

    12:06 pm | August 3, 2012
    • Snooks, why not just go full-out the other way… we will all descend on Hoboken, hire a bus and plaster a “Desperately Seeking Mr. Wow” banner to the sides and tie a bunch of cans to the back, and ride up and down the streets honking and carrying on… and when B. finally comes out and tells us to tone it down, we will pile off the bus.  Each of us will have a side dish, a bottle of something, a classic-movie DVD, and a noisemaker and hat for the party.

Or, we could always do the train idea….

My finger was poised to dial the Marines to go look for you. It’s a relief that you are well and still kicking. I commiserate with you about the posting part as my computer skills aren’t all that and a bag of chips. Keep trying.

Hey Haunted Lady, do you have enough chips to pass around to all of us while we’re patiently waiting to see what Mr. WOW comes up with? I can’t believe there will be pictures. That’s a new twist for him isn’t it?. . .I mean beyond his showing us the photo of his Christmas tree? Remember?

Hi Haunted Lady —  I will bring the brownies.  I do make a mean brownie.  How I wish this trip could actually happen.  We would have a blast and Mr. Wow could come out of hiding and bring B along for the ride.  What fun!

          Seriously,

Dear Mary…I am still buying lottery tickets when the $ reaches that “life transforming” point.  So, the cross-country train trip is still on.  All of you.  And me, my ukulele and my flask.

Oh, how I am looking forward to that train trip to “who knows where”.  It doesn’t matter really, just being together would be such fun.

Take care of yourself, Mr Wow.  Let B help you through this difficult time.  Sometimes when we are in pain, we push away the very closest to us.  You need him and he needs you.  Don’t forget that.

So glad to know that you’re well Mr. Wow.  There’s something missing when we don’t hear from you.  I am looking forward to your pictures and I really miss reading about what is going on in your life.  Please take care and tell B hello.

    5:45 pm | August 3, 2012
    • Mr. Wow

Dear Vintage….I’ll tell B. hello, but he’s a little annoyed with me because he doesn’t think I showed in  him in a good light in my tale of the-post-that-never-was.

I had to remind him I’ve said much worse about myself, and he generally comes off pretty good–incredibly patient, at the very least.  Which he is.  See what happens when you spoil your men?  I even mentioned his fabulous chili!

I vote for the bus filled with all of us regardless.  Think of the fun we could have.  Besides if Mr. WOW won’t come out the least we can do is party with B.

Dear Lulu…B. is no longer a big party-boy.  But back in the day?  He put put the S into Slut.  Not that that was a bad thing.

Maybe he’d  enjoy meeting all of you, and revealing what  a terrible person I really am.  (Also he’s very smart and interesting.)

Remember, we met in a bar called The International Stud.  I was propped up  against the juke box.  Sweet, sober, seventeen and in a few years, his. He was drinking. A lot.  I was all “Oh, don’t drink, it’s so awful. Ick.”

We laugh about that now.  Gallows humor.

Well I no longer drink but I do have to say some of the nicest people I’ve known were drunks. And some of the nicer memories were from the evenings with them. I suspsect looking back I should have just given up driving instead of drinking.

OK, as the oldest child in a once dysfunctional family, my job was to make everyone feel better…

Here’s my attempt for you: When I was in Michigan visiting, my best friend and I were watching Liz Taylor’s only (intentional) horror film, “Night Watch.” We were laughing because there seemed to be an unrelenting thunderstorm through the ENTIRE movie…and then one started for real and nearly knocked out the electricity! We both attributed it to La Liz in the Great Beyond…and it made me think of you, and how you were doing…

What you do (whatever you choose to call it) gives people enjoyment, and something to talk and think about. That’s not meh, Mister!

    Cheers, Rick

Actually, saying nothing seems like the most sheepish way to enter a room. I choose to believe that you did that on purpose to make your point in a meta sort of way.
So here’s this thing we have in common: There was a deadline for me today to get online and fill out some account numbers because some things changed around with my benefits at work. If I didn’t fill out these account numbers, I’d lose my parking privileges and would have to park two counties over and hitch a ride on the space shuttle to get to my job. These were changes I’ve known were necessary for two weeks now. In these last two weeks, I’ve managed to conjure a thousand reasons to not sit at my work computer where I have all of the account information easily accessible and do this simple task and be done with it. I have a good friend who, often in these matters, behaves very mom-like. He constantly reminds me that I have to get these things done, and he nags me if I haven’t done them yet, and if I’m persistent enough, I can stretch it until he gets frustrated, gets the necessary information from me, then angrily does the task on my behalf.

The thing was due today and, naturally, it wasn’t done. And I wasn’t even thinking about it. I just randomly remembered it because I was looking over my online banking information and had this nagging itch in the back of my mind. It seemed to be suggesting that I was forgetting something that I was supposed to be doing over the Internet. I sent my friend a text griping about this fact. I was quite pleased with myself for not indignantly asking him why he didn’t remind me. He wrote back and was really supportive in a way that was not actually useful, which meant I would have to do this myself, and without having all of the necessary materials easily at hand.

I began bumbling my way through the process and immediately hit a roadblock. There’s a math problem that I often have to do in my head that I would have to employ here: It’s sort of a cost/benefit ratio where I have to decide how much “I told you so” I’m willing to pay to get help from my friend. Today, the price felt too high. I had to open a bunch of important mail I’ve been ignoring so that I could cobble together the necessary information to be entered. Before I could be too self-congratulatory about this accomplishment, the site told me that it could find no account matching my data. This is another magic spell that I’m completely capable of: It’s an arcane knack for never having anything just work right and/or go smoothly.

So I had to crunch the numbers on the cost/benefit ratio again. Pride, it seems, can be a good motivator for me on occasion. In a silly trial-and-error process, I eventually got the site to agree that I do, in fact, have such an account with them and that these changes needed made. After much stumbling, I got the changes made and submitted.

And I fully expect to show up to work on Monday only to be told that there is something wrong with my changes.
I strongly suspect that this story will strike a chord with you. Welcome back.

Nobody from HR came looking for me, which I like to pretend is a good sign. The more-likely outcome would be that my electronic card to get into the garage will just stop working at some point and that’s how I’ll learn something was wrong.
To be fair, I probably did enter everything okay, but my mind simply isn’t built to accept that things are working out correctly. I tend to live as if the other shoe is dropping and hasn’t hit the floor quite yet. I choose to believe that this means that I can never be disappointed, but I can always be pleasantly surprised.

Dear DanS…well that’s me too–always pessimistic.  Then usually pleasantly surprised.

But I’d like to change.  The agony of constant pessimism is, well–agony.  By the time things work out okay I’m too exhausted from worry to appreciate it.

Good grief and thank heaven! I am so glad to see anything you have written. Like Baby Snooks and Lila, I was ready once again to hit the road for Hoboken. I tell myself, that you are okay, need time for meds to help and all of the things you tell us in your posts. But I still worry.I understand that you  sometimes don’t have the desire or energy. The problem is, you have given us so much and we have come to care so very much about you.  As far as I am concerned, all you need to do when you aren’t feeling strong enough for a story is just say hello, not doing great right now but will write soon. Hoping for better days, I send lots of hugs.

Dear Deirdre…thank you.  I feel that’s so lame.  “I don’t feel up to it.  I’m depressed.”  Who does?  Who isn’t?      But maybe that’s better than leaving people hanging.

You must see and know by now that this group doesn’t care what you write, we just want you to write. No matter how many times you deny it, you have a gift. It is why we have followed you from the first post on WoW to every single, highly anticipated post now.  We all understand your feelings and love you all the more for telling us about them. Those of us fortunate enough to have grown up with loving, kind and committed parents and also with loving, committed marriages aren’t turned off or smug; we care about a man who shares so beautifully with us. I’d like to think that on some level, it is helpful to you to write about what you feel. Keep telling us whatever you want and you can always share B’s chili recipe.

    Dear Mr. WOW:
I don’t expect you to print this. I only wanted to tell you that over the week-end I found a clue that leads me to believe I know who you are. I still don’t know the name but I saw pictures and heard the voice of a person saying things that I believe revealed your identity.
A positive conclusion would be if you would tell me if you have ever written, or spoken about knowledge you have, which apparently is exclusive to you, about Mae West?

(Of course, if I am right, no one will ever learn about my discovery from me).

    12:37 pm | August 7, 2012
    • Mr. Wow

      Dear LR…

I have never spoken publicly, for one thing. So, you could not have heard my voice.  Nor do I have an special or particular knowledge of Mae West.  I adored Miss W, as the great star she was.  Especially as she conned so many people into believing it was she who wrote all those famous  quips, etc.    If you ever got hold of a script of her early stage productions, which were indeed written by Mae, you’d find a rather tired, obvious “wit.” Sensational subject matter. Not very funny.   Her genius was in her delivery and her ability to recognize great material when she saw it.
So, that’s all I know about Mae.  And by the way, I print every response that comes in.  This is an open forum.  I’ve left myself open to criticism, so I should be ready to take it and respond.

      Daniel Sugar:

Because your cryptic comment immediately follows my remarks to Mr. WOW, I am compelled to ask you:

      Am I the disease?

My name has never been described as “pretty”.

It is a common Christian name in parts of French Canada. (somewhat ancient, I grant you).

I’m asking for clarification because I can’t allow any misinterpretation of my uncorrupted comments to Mr. WOW to cause my being branded as a denigrating contributor to his popular site, nor to unjust banishment from his loyal members roster.

Your willing enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

  • Mr. Wow, you seem chipper this evening!  I’m glad.  Love the discussions here.

Has everyone noticed that somehow, on Mr. Wow’s blog, everything stays positive and civil, even affectionate?  Ahhh, our cozy little sanctuary, and thanks to Mr. Wow.

“Our cozy little sanctuary”, How appropriate.  Mr Wow has brought us together and I believe by doing so, we have become nicer and more tolerant of each other.  Well done, Mr. Wow.

I look forward to some real fun in the next three months before the election.  I love politics, and the discourse should be lively on this site, at least I hope so.
Lila, I still cannot get onto your site—HELP!

Dear Lila and Mary–and everybody.  I am chipper.  And why?  Because even tho my attempt to post on my own was a failure,  it began a discussion and when I start talking with everyone again, I feel so much better. Procrastination is an awful thing.  Sometimes it has worked for me in  a twisted way.  But most of the time I simply feel guilty I’m procrastinating.  So…I keep on procrastinating. Because like Scarlett, I’ll think about it tomorrow.  And tomorrow always comes and it is always slapping me–“uhhhh, gonna get to it now?”    No I won’t and don’t tell me I’ve had a baby and my waist will never be 18 inches again.

I know this–I am my own worst enemy.  But I have hope here.

Hi Mr. Wow—or should I call you Scarlet?  O.K., first, stop feeling guilty because you don’t post all the time.  All we want to hear from you is that you are trying every day to live in the moment and move on, one little step at a time.  All of us procrastinate, no big deal.  Just know that all of us are in your corner, even if there are cobwebs there.  My love to B.

Reading all the posts makes me smile!!!  I think we should all ban together and write a play and/or movie….instead of  ‘Looking for Mr. Goodbar’  it becomes  ‘Looking for Mr. Wow’
we have the bus and train scene, we can have the Marines arrive at the front door so Mr. Wow will at least open it.  We can all rush in and clean out the cobwebs while we eat B’s chili….etc.etc.

Well I’m ready for some ‘dishing” about the presidential race. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum as I call them.

    3:23 pm | August 9, 2012
    • maryburdt

Me too, Baby Snooks—I consider Obama to be Tweedle Dee and Romney to be Tweedle Dum.  I hope you agree.  I am in favor of re-electing President Obama and by the new polls, in today, Obama is leading by 7 points.  52 to 45.  Of course, that can change on a dime.  Who knows what tomorrow might bring.  Love the election cycle and am looking forward to the conventions.

      Stay well, Mary

      7:13 pm | August 11, 2012
      • BabySnooks

What do I think of Paul Ryan?  My grandmother wouldn’t let me say those kind of words at the dinner table so I would be struck by lightning if I used them publicly.  Suffice it to say when I look at him I hear that song from the “The Producers.”  “Springtime, for Hitler, and Germany…”

        3:35 pm | August 12, 2012
        • lulu

Love “Springtime for Hitler”  …..it seems some of the good citizens of Iowa aren’t too fond of Mr. Ryan either….being booed at a Republican rally says alot if you ask me.

Let’s dish!!!!  and at the same all write “Looking for Mr. Wow in Hoboken”.  I’ll rely on those who have known Mr. Wow and his days at WOWOWOW to start.  I only discovered that site about three months before they disbanned, so we need BabySnooks and Lila and those who can start the tale of Mr WOW to start it.  Then we can all add our insights and the few photos available including the Swan, etc.
Now to politics….I was so happy that the Olympics came along to give some respite.  Back to the mudslinging and our lackluster, do no work, Congress.  Is it just me or do they only care about  their jobs, their pensions, and the perks…did they forget who elected them and ‘we the people’?  I think Presidents should hold office for 6 years and go home….therefore they would play to role a tad better.  Our Senators and Congressmen should get SS, no pensions and learn to live like the rest of us who work…..venting is fun!!!!

    9:30 pm | August 9, 2012
    • Deirdre

I’ll get my brain in gear to think of something to add. If you want, Mr. WoW’s posts archived on the right hand side of this site. I think they go back to his first with wowOwow.  As for the politics, I agree with everything you have said. Both sides are so bent on winning, the seem to forget what this is supposed to be about. I think Congress has gotten so far out of control, it is ridiculous.                  Can’t wait to get “The Hoboken Story” underway. This might get Mr. Wow checking in often, just to see what we have going!

      • Okay, Lulu and Deirdre, let’s try an experiment:  I have set up a “Desperately Seeking Mr. Wow” page on my blog with the intent that his fans can use the comments area to write Lulu’s screenplay (it will undoubtedly be snapped up by Hollywood producers as a comedy).  We have just converged on Penn Station and have a lot of heart, but nary a clue.

In honor of Mr. Wow and B, the gang who going in search of them in Hoboken is stopping off tonight in the West Village at 119 Perry Street, the site of The International Stud Bar where Wow and B met…There is a new restaurant but they serve a drink called The International Stud…then we are off to see The Book of Mormon…..everyone is welcome to meet us there.  We have Marilyn and Liz impersonators thanks to Diedre, Rude Dog is providing us with his snooping abilities so we can find Hoboken and our Mr. Wow.  Lila is taking pictures of all of our escapades.  Baby Snook has found some Marines I think.  So much is happening so fast hard to keep up.  Lila has a link in her blog for those who are curious.

    • Mr. Wow

Oh, you did not!  Today is the 13th.  I didn’t notice notice anybody skulking around Hoboken.  Of course I never left the house this weekend.  I’m busy reading a my Ayn Rand.  All I really knew of her was the overwrought movie based on one of her books, “The Fountainhead.”  The book seems much less amusing.   After all, I should know what my next president is into.  They’ll run  Ryan in 2016, after four years of Mr. Roboto.  Sorry, I still think the Repubs will get in. Don’t want it, but I feel it is inevitable.  (That fucking “Romney killed my wife” ad has not helped O.)

Of course, it’ll be grim fun during the re-count, ’cause it’s gonna be close.  But like the last time, conservatives do it better, they’ll get their guy in.

Next up, “Atlas Shrugged.”   I predict some judicious skimming.

I worry about it because, well, the vast majority of Americans aren’t the brightest light bulbs.  Why anyone who isn’t rich would vote for Romney and Ryan is beyond explanation except perhaps they believe it still might “trickle down” which of course it won’t.  But people still want to believe it might. So, hey, let the big boys try again. I don’t think it will be a landslide but I suspect in many states many Democrats won’t be allowed to vote and so there are enough racists alone to ensure Romney wins. Bottom line is with regard to the social welfare programs getting cut, well, the racists see all the minorities getting cut. And they want that.  So, what the hell, you know? So they pay a litte more in taxes. Never mind white get more welfare benefits than minorities. Maybe these clueless wonders believe only minorities will be cut.  So instead of all the minorities rioting in the streets, well, we have all the white trash in the trailer parks rioting. That sounds mean. But ou know what? It’s the truth.

Baby Snooks,Everything you say makes sense and is the truth. With deep respect, I hope you are wrong. I think Romney/Ryan are a nightmare and I don’t understand how anyone could vote for them. But as you say, they probably will.  I have a feeling this election will be disputed in at least one or two states. Are the Supremes going to decide another election?

I hope you can forgive us Mr. Wow, but I have never been to New York City and there is so much to see, so we got sidetracked on our way to your place.  I hope B’s chili will still be waiting for us when we finally get there.  The gals are showing me all the sites; Empire State building, Broadway, the Statue of Liberty, oh and yes, spent some time shopping.  We are now looking for a hotel to rest our weary bones in and then we will continue our search to find you.  You don’t, by any chance, have a place for all of us to sleep, do you?  On second thought, that is probably not a good idea.  We are kind of a rowdy bunch sometimes.  We all look forward to meeting you and B.  Keep the light on.

Mr. Wow:  I don’t think there has been any fucking involved, mind- or otherwise.   It’s more of a Virtual Fantasy Road Trip.

But then, I’m just a dog who was nutted a long time ago, so I wouldn’t know a fuck about fucking if it slapped me in the muzzle.  I’m just along to snap at strangers and try to keep everyone in the group headed in the same direction.

Mr. Wow, as Lila says we are taking turns writing a story/script call Desperately Seeking Mr. Wow! We all throw in a couple of sentences and then try to string them together! Trying to be a little funny and add some adventure. Lila left you the link, you should look at it. Hemingway we are not but it is funny! Rude Dog has been great, as has the rest of the gang! It is fun trying to virtually figure out how to find you and B. I’ll bet when you started at wowOwow, you never bargained for this crew!!xo

Hi Mr. Wow—We are headed in your direction now.  I hope you and B are home.  You will hear us before you see us, as we have a band with us who will be playing “Hello Dolly” very loudly.  When you hear the music, join us.  Mary

  • Jonny T

How about a Mr. Wow potluck?  Pick a spot, everyone brings something.  To add an air of old-school mystery, no one will know if Mr. Wow is there or not.  He and B can blend into the crowd, and then mysteriously slip away.  Very dramatic!  🙂

    9:12 pm | August 14, 2012
    • TheRudeDog

Oh, that idea is just aces!!!   Yep, we could plant ourselves in a good place, our enthusiasm and joie-de-vivre would attract a crowd immediately, the two boys could slip in, mingle and be back home before we even knew what happened.  They THEY could taunt US with hints, clues, etc. about where they were and how they fooled us!

I think that’s the best idea, Jonny T, we’ve had on this trip so far!

    • lulu

Sounds good….however I was looking forward to B’s chili…..Our virtual trip is so much fun too soon to let it end….besides I can guarantee the B and his Wowie are reading all the comments in both site and having a grand time laughing….maybe they could drop a clue or two, just to stir up the mystery….that would be fun!!!!!

Lulu:  The way I see it, if we play our cards wisely, we can do Jonny’s Pot-Luck Plan and ALSO do B’s chili — one doesn’t have to exclude the other, does it?  We can do this, I know we can!

Well I think we should all give our personal descriptions of Mr. Wow and B….we can come up with a composite that might just be close to true

          10:39 pm | August 14, 2012
          • Deirdre

Okay, I think Mr. Wow is fairly tall, slim build and with ever so slightly graying hair. I think he tends toward classic clothes with something added for personal flair.  I think B is about the same height and build as Mr. Wow but has lighter hair.  He dresses a bit more formally than Mr. Wow and so I think tends more toward suits that are impeccably tailored. I think in their leisure time, they like to wear jeans, khakis and oxford cloth shirts.

          • Mr. Wow

Deirdre! I am on the short side–5 foot seven. Trim. VERY graying hair. Tho I went blond again for the summer. And I decided to stop being a vampire and get a bit of a tan. So now I look like…Jayne Mansfield. Mr. Wow dresses very casually unless he is forced to “dress up.” And these days, in my biz, that means a nice jacket, real shoes and and air of confidence. (the latter is my undoing) B. does not dress more formally than Mr. W. He is not a tall blond. (I have now ordered him to turn into one!) In our leisure time B. wears jeans and a shirt. His shirts are nice so I often borrow them. (And ruin them because I perspire heavily in the summer.) I slop around in tee-shirts, tank tops and grubby shorts. I know–the glam factor is stunning.

          • Deirdre

Well I did get somewhat close and you are taller than I am, so that makes you tall. Everyone does the jeans for dress and casual and they look great. Big miss on B’s hair, let me know if he goes blond and how he looks!

Hi Mr. Wow,  Are you telling the truth about you and B, and what you look like, or are you playing along with our game.  I like the t-shirt, jeans vibe—very sexy.  I am so happy to see you posting a little bit.  We miss you so much and hope by the time we find you and B you will welcome us with open arms.  Mary

I wonder too Mary. This is all so much fun, I hope we are making our friend laugh at least a little.

          • Mr. Wow

Dear Mary…of course I’m telling the truth. I don’t feel right about describing B. too much because, well—I’ve dragged him into all this and told all sorts of intimate things. But yeah, I’m as I describe myself. Still boyish despite moving up on 60–fast. (But I think the boyish thing is more the way I behave. I am totally age-inappropriate.) And he’s not a tall blond. And I do slop around as I said. In fact I’m wearing those grubby shorts right now. Uh, wait–this is getting kinda porny. Anyway, just an average guy. But a doll when I was young.

Hi again Mr. Wow,  I feel young and involved also, even if I am getting old.  Curiosity is what keeps us young, don’t you think?

come on Mr. Wow.  Give us a little hint as to where we can find you.  We are a great bunch and we are having the time of our lives on this trip.  What would make it perfect is you coming out of the closet.  Oh dear, you already did that.  Well, you get the picture.  We have gotten sidetracked,  from time to time but our first order of business, is to find you and B.  HELP!  Mary

Haha! I wondered what you would think of Monty Clift!! No sure you will like any of our musings on what you and B look like but I’m sure you both will get a few good laughs out of it! Your faithful followers are having a great time with this “screenplay/script/mess!

  • Hey everyone – unrelated to our virtual trip, but see my front page.  Joan Larsen is in touch and we can hope to see more of her writing on “Forming the Thread” in the future!  Would be GREAT to get all the old regulars back into discussing things again!!

I was just thinking:  “Travel Fiasco: Rogue Wave…” on Ms Larsen’s site.   That’s something we sure don’t have to worry about on our Desperately Seeking Mr. Wow Road Trip.  If we encounter a Rogue Wave, we just give it a “meh” and it’s gone.  Just like that!

It is nice to read that Mr. Wow is just like the rest of us, not wearing a tux every day looking like he just stepped out of GQ.  Read Joan Larsen’s post in Lila’s blog and realized how her writing and thoughts apply not only to women but all of us.  Hope Mr. Wow and B read her posts.

82 days until the election…..thinking of all the hundreds of millions, probably billions, that will be spent between now and then.  What a waste!!!!

    10:33 am | August 16, 2012
    • Amazing, isn’t it… and ANNOYING.  Too many smart, capable, ethical people won’t run for office because 1) they don’t have a kajillion dollars or the means to raise it, and probably don’t want to make bargains with the Devil or wherever campaign funds come from… and 2) they don’t want to subject themselves and their families to the mud-slinging, false accusations, muckraking, knock-down-drag-out part of the campaign.

I SO wish for my little utopian society where politicians run civilized campaigns based on the issues.

Utopia:  Greek οὐ (“not”) and τόπος (“place”).  No place.

Oh, right, there’s the problem right there….

Andy…I am fine.  Just having a mild heart attack over the concept of “legitimate” rape.

I still can’t accept that there are actually female, black, Hispanic, gay Republicans.  This is what your party thinks of you, really.    Let’s get Paul Ryan to come clean on “forcible” rape.

And, again.  The subject of a woman’s reproduction system is not a subject for men.  And for women who want to control other women’s bodies.  Shame on you.

So, Todd. Let me get this straight: Post-Massive-Brain-Fart/Loss-of-Any-Idea/Clue-What-It-Means-To-Be-A-Well-Informed/Educated-Man, you attempted to explain away your horrifying stupidity by announcing: “The only mistake was in the words I said.”

So, basically, Todd, you still believe the same things you believe and have believed for who-knows-how-long, you just f***ing “used the wrong words?”

SO. I can say to the first person I meet on the street, “You’re ugly and you’re a horrific color and I’m smarter than you are and I really, seriously don’t want you to pro-create and your kid’s ugly, too, and the Lakers suck, and the damn earth is NOT round, and I can hit your kid so hard he practically dies but, if I don’t hit him THAT hard, it’s not assault and, hey, your daughter is a little bit pregnant and, while we’re at it, remove that stupid crucifix RIGHT NOW…”

Then, as I walk away, I can turn around & say, “Oops. I used the wrong words right then. I’m not wrong, mind you, I just used the wrong words.”

THIS is your Best Shot at convincing the people of your state that you’re The Best Man for the Job?

I swear, sometimes I don’t even know what to do with crap like this.  I just don’t know.

Lila, I was very gratified to see all the appreciative, thoughtful comments in response to your excellent blog on the “legitimate rape” fiasco. Apparently some of the commenters reposted your blog on other sites. Excellent example of the power of the Internet!

Dear Lila…well, Aiken will hold on, and possibly win.  Even if he doesn’t, millions  of people believe as he does.  Including women, which is the most tragic thing of all.

I think Ryan/Romey will win.  And then I guess then they will spend three years blaming their predecessors when the economy doesn’t magically improve.  That’s what they are promising.  They just don’t call it “hope and change.”   They’re trying to “save America.”   Good luck on that.

Hi Mr. Wow—I must disagree with you.  Obama/Biden will win in Nov., or Dec., maybe, even Jan.  You know this is going to be a close election and who knows how long it will take for Florida to count their votes.  But, in the end it will be Obama.  I have to believe that the people of this country will see through the Republican maze of bad ideas, lack of compassion, and the Tea Party takeover of the Grand Old Party.
So glad you are posting again.  Don’t forget the costume party this week in Hoboken. Mary

maryburdt, I like your version of the outcome of this election far more than Mr. Wow’s! I am also counting on there being enough intelligent voters in Missouri to make certain Akin does not get elected!

          • maryburdt

Hi Deirdre—The people of Missouri will throw Akin out on his a**, come Nov.  Anyone who votes for Todd Akin has a screw loose or needs therapy.

Looking forward to seeing you in Hoboken.  Mary

          • Mr. Wow

Dear Mary….I certainly hope you are correct. But, being a pessimist by nature…maybe I will happily surprised. I think it will be so close it’ll be a replay of 2000. And even if Obama takes it, it will only harden opposition.

            11:16 pm | August 23, 2012
          • maryburdt

No more pessimistic thoughts about the election, Mr Wow.  Obama will win and after he is secure in his re-election he will be ready to take on the opposition that is thrown at him. It will not be a repeat of 2004.  He has learned his lesson; Republicans want no part of getting this Country back on track.  There is a legitimate reason they call the Repubs the party of NO.  They hate this President like no other in our history.  Too bad, too sad.  They could have helped Obama get us out of this economic mess, but, of course, they didn’t.  This time it will be different.  We know who the enemy is.

            Best to you and B

    Mr. Wow-
You were on my mind when I went to see your other favorite diva, Marilyn Monroe last Sunday at a screening of “The Misfits.” I only saw it once before, years ago, on TV.

I had tears in my eyes half the time I was watching. On it’s own, it’s a sad enough movie. But knowing the backstory and the lines written expressly for Marilyn…Lord! I went for a long walk afterward in the late afternoon sun thinking about Monroe, loneliness, depression…and you!

Whether or not you can call what Monroe does in the movie acting, she is stunning in that she’s so raw, it’s almost painful to watch. When MM asks Gable’s character how do you just live…I wanted to die! Gable really stepped up to the plate in this legendary film, too…going outside his leading man person…the scene with him looking for his kids at the rodeo, drunk and crying…wow. The real surprise was Monty Clift, as the beat up rodeo cowboy. I always thought of him post-car accident, immobile, as in Suddenly Last Summer. But the phone booth scene, where Clift is calling his mother, is so subtle…and when he tells his Mom his face is just fine, the tears just started rolling! Plus Eli Wallach and the great Thelma Ritter… I know “The Misfits” is not considered a classic, but its fascinating and evokes strong emotions…

When I think of Marilyn, I always think what could have been…

    • Deirdre

Rick! Nice to hear from you. I have watched The Misfits at least 3 times and really love it. I thought Marilyn was so beautiful in that movie and her performance was very good. As you said Gable was special as well.

      10:10 pm | August 23, 2012
    • Mr. Wow

Dear Rick…I have so many problems with “The Misfits.”  Mostly the (what I consider to be)  condescending script and a wildly invasive camera.  Do you realize there are more T & A shots of MM in that film than in any other?   I am also always appalled by  the moment  in which her old pin-ups are displayed.  Cruel.  It was supposed to be Miller’s “valentine.” But by then, they were a dead couple and what he had her do and say proved it.  To me, anyway.

Still, it’s Marilyn and she has many memorable moments. She listens and reacts so well. And little things she says–“I don’t know where I belong.”  Her scenes in the truck when the horses are being roped are especially good.  I also think she looks quite lovely and contemporary.   Monty is just fucking brilliant.  The scene in the phone booth should have won him an Oscar.

      • rick gould

Hey Mr. W–Actually, the T&A stuff did not go unnoticed, esp. with my female movie going companion. I had wondered if that was more John Huston, than Miller…I don’t know. But even the later directors who proclaimed to take her seriously always had a kneejerk reaction to her sex symbol status…i.e., Olivier directing her to “be sexy” in “The Prince and the Showgirl” and Wilder too (lots of butt and titty shots in “Some Like it Hot” too…) I think it was partly the times, the “Mad Men”/”Playboy” era. But considering her physical/emotional state during the filming, Marilyn has some incredible moments…

Well said Mary about the election; I agree with you.  Obama will win and move forward…finally!
As for The Misfits – amazingly depressing film.  The acting is superb, but after watching it the only thing you can say is:  Why go on?!

    12:08 pm | August 24, 2012
    • Mr. Wow

Dear HSH…Well, Romney has just jumped on the Birther Train, so…my pessimism remains.

As I said, I will be thrilled to be proven wrong with a strong Obama win.  I hope my vote matters.

“The Misfits” ended all wrong.  Everybody should have been alone, just as they began. The Gable/Monroe getting together was silly.  They were both flawed, unhappy free spirits who should have bid each other a fond farewell and gone ahead with their flawed, unhappy lives.

Please Mr. Wow and B, we all met because of you and have had lots of fun “searching” for you.  I am sure you know that none of us would really want to break your anonymity, it’s all been in good fun and for me, at least, another way to let you know how important you are to all who follow you! You should see the pictures and comments over at the Masquerade site, we have gone all out and it is such fun.

        10:05 pm | August 25, 2012
  • Mr. Wow, if you are concerned about maintaining your anonymity – my blog allows totally anonymous comments, just don’t fill out the fields you don’t want to fill out, and you don’t have to register at all.  The only thing you can’t hide is your IP address, and all that gets me is your city (they’re assigned pretty much like area codes now).  And we already KNOW that!

So put on a nice Mardi Gras mask or something and come have some of Lulu’s mango coleslaw.  And bring B. with some of his famous chili!  We’ve been dying to meet this man of yours.

    Dear Mr. Wow,
Were you able to make it? I sure hope so. The party was so much fun! There was even a salsa band, and Bruce Springsteen and Aerosmith came out to play for us, too!!!
And the fireworks were just aaaaaawwwweeessomme!!!
The food was fabulous, the drinks were amazing, the costumes were fantastic (Lila got a great shot of me in mine as a medieval princess…kinda makes me wish I could keep the costume–and the look–for real… ^_^)
In short, it was a truly memorable party that the group threw in your honor, so I hope you were able to make it 🙂

      Wow.  Just Wow.

It’s “The Day After” and things remain a little hazy, but I do know last night was one of the best parties I’ve ever been to.  Ever.

And one other thing I know is that not one of us planners/participants would have ever spent the past … what? … 2 weeks? … “getting together” out there in the ether, getting to know one another, yes, bonding, enjoying one anothers’ company — none of that would’ve happened had it not been for Mr. Wow and this blog.  So many “thank you” tips-of-the-hat but the biggest one to Mr. Wow for providing a safe, secure, comfortable, welcoming meeting-place for us all.

(My cheeks are a little sore from smiling so much and my voice is a little husky from singing “Born in the USA” at the top of my lungs, pretty close to midnight.  I’m exhausted.)

Thanks for all the fun!!!!  So lucky to have been part of our ‘special tribe’.  Mr. Wow should have a huge smile on his face just knowing that due to him new friendships have started.

Sure was lots of fun, hopefully Mr. Wow and B will join us next time.  Maybe they were there, but couldn’t tell because of the costumes.

I’m late again, Mr. Wow, but staggering along in your tracks – life’s a bitch but I’m on it. Please don’t leave us.
