I love the Oscars – it’s like the gay Super Bowl.

    6:13 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Mr. Wow

Welcome Daniel…still have not stopped smiling over  the exchange of lines from “Blondes” the other day!

      6:28 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

6:12…sorry I’m late beginning.  There was a problem.   I left my opening commentaries on the other announcement of Mr. W.s coverage.

On E! red carpet now with Ryan and Guiliana, two very shrunken people.

Anne Hathaway being interviewed earlier, backstage with James Franco.  Why are they not thrilling me—even the idea of them–as Oscar hosts?  Oh, well, I am old I guess.

I’d prefer Sharon Stone, who was terrif with Piers Morgan the other night. (Although he is as bad an interviewer as Larry King)

As I explained earlier I am writing in bold type because my font is perpetually tiny and it is hard for me to see my typos and mispellings.  Tho they will be numerous, nevertheless.

    • Daniel Sugar

Cheer up, Mr. Wow – the evening is going to be saved by Billy Crystal.

      6:20 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Okay…commerical.  Mr. W. spent the day loading more music on his computer and iPOd (up to nearly 3,000 songs…)…making sure Faye Dunaway was NOT appearing on “Dancing with the Stars”…gagging at Elton naming Lady Gaga as his child’s godmother…with B., mourning the sudden death of a pet–our young cat Sweetie.  Happened yesterday.

I am wearing–because I know you want to know–gym shorts, an old “Property of Detroit Tigers” tee shirt.  Unshaven.  Not pretty.

    6:21 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Hallie Steinfeld from “True Grit”  pretty in pink.  15 years old.  Let’s hope she doesn’t win.  No offense, but children should not compete against adults.

Her gown is by Marquesa.  It is age-appropriate.

    6:22 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Tee Zee

So sorry about the loss of Sweetie.  Please tell me your not wearing a tee shirt!

    6:25 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Florence of Florence and the Machine is talking to Ryan.  She’ll sing tonight.  Great voice.

Just spotted Mila Kunis in violet…Flo’s dress by Valentino, rather drab

Mila…she is gorgeous, deseverd a nomination.  Not loving this dress.  Looks like somethnig to wear in the bedroom.

Amy Adams coming up.  Black, glittery, sleeveless.  Eh.  Lots of beautful flowing hair.

    6:27 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

In pepping for the Oscars today I watched…a Golden Girls marathon.

And Hallmark kept show Raquel Welch in her Foster Grants commerical.  Why isn’t SHE presenting?

Mandy Moore onscreen.  Not a triumph for her stylist.

Now Russell Brand, who is at least wearing a tie but forgot to wash his hair.  With his mum, who is quite attractive.

    6:32 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Tee Zee

    Florence is amazing.

    6:33 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Michelle Williams…no, no,no….!  And I’ve met her. She’s a doll.   This is not a good night or a good look.  OMG  it was Chanel.  Coco is twirling somewhere.

    6:34 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Tee Zee

    Amy Adams is stunning.

    6:36 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

I liked Michelle’s dress. She’s so tiny and she wore the dress, rather then the dress wearing her…

    6:37 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Lull…I  put hundreds of Beatles songs on my iPOd.  I recently purchased the box set, all their albums.  I still have my vinyl White Album.

Amy Adams…oh, I think it’s dark blue.  Doesn’t need the little necklace.  Her love scenes with Mark Wahlberg were “hungry and passionate.”  she says.  Mine would be too.

    6:38 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Oh my…Is that Kelly Ozfest?? Ozbourne?

    6:39 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Kelly and Guiliana like Mila’s dress.

Kelly’s hair is enormous.   Love a girl with big hair.  It’s very Dusty Springfield

    6:40 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Daniel Sugar

Thanks, yes, that was fun – look forward to running lines from many more great movies with you.

    6:41 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Tee Zee

So far disappointed, most of these dresses lack imagination and definitely do not flatter the women.  Maybe its me and my dark mood.

    6:42 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Mr. Wow

Daer Tee…it’s not you. DRAB is the word!

      6:46 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

I wonder if HGTV or whatever it is called, and bad lighting are coming into play…

    6:45 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Mr. Wow

Yes…it plays up the embalming fluid.

      6:47 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

    Amy’s heels are amazing, however.

Kelly and Guiliana are iffy on Amy’s dress.

They are loving Michelle.  She’s so “girly…a blonde Audrey Hepburn.”   Really?

Oy…Nicole Kidman will arrive soon.  Invariably badly dressed.  Horrific taste.  In clothes.  And former husbands.  (Actually, that’s not fair.  I  think Tom is still pretty sexy and very talented. The other stuff…not my business.)

    6:45 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

    I can’t forgive T.C. for his anti antidepressant remarks…
embalming fluid?  I think I’m slow witted tonight.

    6:50 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Oh, see…Kelly agrees with me about Hallie’s dress–“age appropriate”

Mark Ruffalo now…and accompanied by—Anna Wintour?  (Just kidding, it’s the wife.)

    6:50 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

I can’t tell the difference between the real Mark Zuckerberg and the fake Mark Zuckerberg (sp)

    6:51 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Tee Zee

      Talk about art imitating life!

      6:54 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Jennifer Hudson…thank God, red and cleavage.  And people handling her train.

    6:51 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

    Haha…Anna Wintour!

    6:53 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Something is wrong with Jennifer’s cleavage. People will pay. Heads will roll……

    6:54 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Mr. Wow

Hmmmm…slightly lopsided.  Well, didn’t she have a mirror?

      6:55 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Tee Zee

Ah, but the earrings are to die for!

      6:59 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Ugh,,,Cate Blanchette.  These dresses tonight are killing me.  And not in a good way.

Ruffalo’s wife has an enormous growth on her shoulder.

Jennifer talking her “new body”   The dress is Versace?  Very plain for Versace.

    6:55 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Tee Zee

In sync with the dresses…and these folks pay stylists!  They should have pulled a Sharon Stone and dig into the back of the closet.

      7:02 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Cate Blanchette looks 10 years younger. I love her hair. The dress wore her, in my opinion.

    6:57 pm | February 27, 2011

I love that Tim Gunn is there and covering the event.  Hooray Tim!

    7:00 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Kelly’s and Guiliana say Cate’s dress is “artwork”

Girls, please.  Mr. Wow hasn’t eaten all day.

Jeremey Weiner and Kevin Spacey chatting.  Kevin talking up “Social Network” as one of the exec producers…

    Marisa Tomei…it’s not good.

I think I saw Justin TimberlaKE.  hot.

Scarlett…ran out of combs.  looks likes she’s wearing a tee-shirt under that transparent lace number.

    7:02 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

I can’t find Tim Gunn. I agree, he would add a touch of elegance….

    7:02 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Diosa Bulos

      Tim Gunn is on ABC

      7:05 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Agreed re: Marisa and Scarlett…They went for the “I just woke up” look…

    7:03 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Tee Zee

Tim Gunn, please sit down and have a talk with Scarlett Johansson!

    7:05 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Oh, switched over to the ABC red carpet.  Tim Gunn with Mila.  She is adorable.  Still hating the dress.

More from Hailee in her princess gown.  Sweet child.

    ABC giving excellent close-ups.

Now Jesse Eisenberg in a business suit.  Very cute.

    7:05 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

    Yes, much better on ABC.

    7:07 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Daniel Sugar

You can FedEx Jesse Eisenberg right over.

    7:08 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Community Manager

    Hailee’s dress is great!

    7:08 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Sharon, Sharon, Sharon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    Thank you, girl.   I hope she presents.

And she was great with Piers Morgan last week. (back on E!—the network.)

Ryan and Justin T.    Justin in  a a tux.  Love him as an actor.   And he doesn’t Facebook.  Good, we can marry.

    7:08 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Marisa Tomei…beautiful from the shoulders up.  Wonderful hair (tip to Scarlett–this is the way to wear “casual” locks)

    7:11 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

I missed Sharon. I loved her on Piers too. She just through her head back and had a great laugh when he asked her if her forhead moves. Her response…”does yours?”

    7:12 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Jennifer Laurence on ABC…simple red.  She could have done more.  Especially because if you look quick, she resembles a refreshed Kate Hudson.

    7:13 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Rusell Brand’s mom.  Hot.  (tip to Scarlett–this is how you wear transparent lace)

    7:14 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Richard Bassett

All the gowns look alike to me. I am missing that gay gene

    7:16 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

    Melissa Leo with Tim.

In papier mache?  THis dress looks like it hurts.

    7:16 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Tee Zee

Justin, please shave. Rockin the tux.

    7:17 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Helena Bohman Carter.  Typical.  Fine.  This is her style.

    More nondescript from Hillary Swank.

    7:18 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Nicole has arrived. I do love her. I do. She’s one of my favorites.

    7:19 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Oh, Hillary had feathers on the bottom.  I’d rather they go around the neck.  Nothing like a good boa.

    7:20 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Giulianna (sp) does not look healthy at all.
    Helen Mirren Timeless
    Celine looks tired…

    7:23 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Helen Mirren.  Oh, you are a goddess.

Celine Dion.  Oh, dear.  And she’s going to sing.

  • J G

Halle Berry is stunning. I love her dress.

    7:25 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Hugh Jackman and the wife.  Yikes, she has Zsa Zsa’s nose.  Haven’t seen that kind of work in decades.

    They are blissful.

Uh-Oh, Halle and Hillary are wearing very similar gowns.  Although I have to look again.  Halle might have tulle rather than feathers.

    7:26 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Tee Zee

Not digging ABC’s coverage…do I really need to hear from James Francos mom?

    7:27 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Oh Nicole…You are excused. You have a new baby…I still love you.

    7:28 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Reese Witherspoon blowing kisses from her limo.

Javier Bardeim and Josh Brolin.  Men!

Reese in black with a white bodice.

Nicole.  Not breaking her losing streak.

Penelope—finally some glitter.  Red!  (tip to Jennifer Hudson–this is how to wear cleavage)

    7:30 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Matthew Maconahey (sp) is too oily. Doesn’t he EVER shower??

    7:31 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

    7:32 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Mr. Wow

I like very her very  much as an actress most of the time…

      7:34 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Matthew Maconauhey (sp?)  Too tan, too…shiny.  Too many chemical peels? A little too gaunt, Christian Bale-ish

Oh, Miss Paltrow.  That voice…chalk on the blackboard. (tho she does a very good Brit accent)   Dress is Calvin Klein.  It looked like something from “The Jetsons”

    7:33 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Richard Bassett

But Gwynth as a vocalist? Not impressed.

    7:34 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Ah Mr. Wow. We will always have Matthew Maconahey (sp)…

    7:35 pm | February 27, 2011

She did not convince me as a country music singer.

    Chritian Bale–hideous facial hair.

    7:36 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Christian Bale is playing that guy…what’s his name…the guy that played Johnny Cash and made a fool of himself on Letterman.

    7:36 pm | February 27, 2011

  • Mr. Wow

Reese looks fabulous.  Great late 1960’s hair.

Sandra Bullock.  Vera Wang.  Apparently red is the only vibrant color in the Hollywood fashion  palatte?

Halle.  It’s tulle. She is a ravishing woman.  Kelly just said “I don;t know anybody who doesn’t like her”   Ahhh…..honey.

Paltrow’s dress maybe not too bad.  Doesn’t need that little pin on her hip.

    7:40 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

    Robert Downey.  Handsome tonight.

Penelope Cruz’s head is too small for her bust.

    7:42 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Thanks Richard. And Yes, Mr. Wow, I laughed too when Kelly said that about Halle. I thought…Hmmm, you don’t know Mr. Wow. She IS ravishing.
I believe that something happened to Nichole in her limo. She had a major meltdown right before her entrance. I just know it.

    7:47 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Mr. Wow

Nah…she always looks like she’s been crying.  Strained.  She’s a tense woman, I think.

      7:50 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Tee Zee

Anne Hathaway, not liking the hair or makeup.

    7:47 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Mark Wahlberg…oh, he said his wife and kids were his real awards. Sweet!  I’m in Jersey, Mark.  If your awards ever tarnish.

    7:48 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Tee Zee

I think I need a drink, I’m beginning to like the facial hair on Mark Walberg.

    7:48 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

    7:49 pm | February 27, 2011

  • Tee Zee

Now i know I need a drink…Robert Downey Jr is hot!

    7:53 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Robert Downey on ABC.  Closer views, a little more ragged.  Such a smart guy and  a brilliant actor.  The wife is weariing eaarings designed by Angelina Jolie?

    7:53 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Richard Bassett

Reese is the prettiest, by far…with Barbie hair. and she talks well too!

    7:53 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Richard Bassett

Downey pushed his hair back, and up a bit…and has lost a little weight in his face, and looks awake

    7:55 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Natalie Portman is lovely and glowing. I don’t think she likes Ryan Seacrest, but she was a pro.

    7:56 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Natalie Portman…same color as Scarlett J., it looks like.

She’s heavily expecting and looks quite lovely.  Tiffany jewels. Very good actress.  She just doesn’t deserve the Oscar.

    7:56 pm | February 27, 2011

Really?  I loved her dress from the Golden Globes but this purple is, well, yuck.

      -Fashionista Not

      8:01 pm | February 27, 2011
      • Mr. Wow

Dear CM…she is bringing a new life into the work.  We don’t say “yuck” about expectant mothers.  In a few months she’ll be fair game again.

        8:10 pm | February 27, 2011
        • Community Manager

She is beautiful.  The color she is wearing doesn’t do her justice and brings her down.

As for expecting – recall Annette B. when she was expecting and was nominated?  She looked amazing.

          8:14 pm | February 27, 2011
          • Tee Zee

Must be my TV, the color here looks stunning.

            8:29 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Richard Bassett

    Nat? No, not for Swan.

    7:57 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

I haven’t seen Annette Benning. I hope she wins.

    7:58 pm | February 27, 2011

Me too!  Sorry Natale, please let it be Annette.

      8:30 pm | February 27, 2011

    8:01 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

    Tim Gunn with Jennifer Hudson.

Camera is not down her bosom, so any leverage problems were not seen.

Natalie Portman.  She must be so exhausted.  All that work on “Swan” and then pregnancy!

    8:01 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Richard Bassett

I like Franco (It’s the James Dean thing)

    8:01 pm | February 27, 2011

    8:01 pm | February 27, 2011

    8:03 pm | February 27, 2011

Isn’t he?  Very smart, too.  And nice.

      8:08 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

James Franco.  Good looking enough.  He is very nervous.

Tim and Justin T.–Tim admits ABC has been stalking his progress.  Justin just turned 30.  I’m not into the facial hair but I could live with it.

    Sandra—exquisite pale skin.

    8:06 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Nicole…again, with the hideous hair.    She says she and Keith are “mellow”  Let’s take her aT her word.

Miss Paltrow…Oh, wait–did that have what resembled a big hem?!

She needs color in the face.

    8:13 pm | February 27, 2011

Jennifer Lopez shaving her legs?  Is that what I just saw in that commercial?

    8:17 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Hugh Jackman…his nose looks a little bigger.  Age happens, even to the boy from Oz.

    8:21 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Richard Bassett

Halle -I knew she’d make it big ever since The Flintstones!

    8:22 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Mr. Wow

And she hasn’t aged a second!  Amazing.

      8:26 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

I’m not a Hugh Jackman fan. I don’t know why. He’s so nice.
I don’t like this sit down interview they are doing this year before the show. It’s not working. (for me)

I’m starving.  Can somebody out there pls. bring me a pizza?

Halle.  Dress looks better in repose.  She’s truly ravishing-looking. Issues.  She has issues.  Too bad about winning that Oscar.  She hasn’t had a hit since. (I liked “Catwoman,” by the way.)

Sorry Mr. wOw!  We just finished our appetizers (sauteed shrimp in garlic, butter, chives poured over popcorn).  Now onto the main course – a lovely roast pork loin stuffed with apples, dried cranberries, nutmeg, pepper with a reduced apple and dijon sauce served with sauteed spinach.

Bo problem, I have enough dough here to whip up a second one.

Commercial break – run to the bathroom, refill the wine glass and move from the Oscar appetizer to the main course.

Dear CM…alas, I keep a dry house.  I drink enough after work every day, trying to figure out what the hell happened to me?!

I need food.  Breakfast maybe.  I like breakfast for dinner.

Sure, Here’s a pizza. I’m fixing a turkey sandwich on rye, lightly toasted.
I missed Catwoman, and agree with Richard that Mass. is the new Hollywood East. They filmed the movie Shutter Island there too.

Well…there is always Aretha Franklin to look forward too….heaven forbid. Now Jen Hudson should be in THAT!

Best Supporting Actress upcoming…I’m hoping for Helena or Amy Adams.  Please, not a child.

Kirk.  Amazing. God bless.  Too drawn out, tho.  Stop.

Melissa Leo.  Well, she was good and didn’t as it turn out, ruin her chance with those ridiculous ads.

    8:56 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Richard Bassett

I loved Melissa’s north shore accent. She really got it down pat!

    8:57 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

I have a feeling Melissa is not terribly well-liked.  And not just because of those ads.

Get ON with it.  You’ll be doing sitcoms soon enough.

    8:58 pm | February 27, 2011
  • J G

Wow. She just said the F word. She still has the Mass. accent going. (just kidding Richard)

    9:01 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Mr. Wow

It wasn’t so much bad taste as our own discomfort with age.  Considering all he’s been through, he is a phenom.  But, clearly an elderly man.  I hate myself for being embarassed or discomforted.   Someday, if I am lucky (or not, depending on my circumstances)  I’ll be an elderly gent.

What a slap in the face for Walhberg, Mr WoW!

    9:33 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Mr. Wow

Well, I wouldn’t go that far.  But I thought he deserved a nod. He is an excellent actor and has made an amazing transformation in Hollywood from that rough trade in his undies.  As a producer, he is very well regarded.

    Bad choice, Anne.

Nic and Hugh.  Stars of that six hour epic that didn’t know what the hell it was,  “Australia.”

The dress looks a wee bit better up there on stage.  And she said it was “very comfortable.”  And don’t we want our stars to be comfortable?  They’d wish the same for us.

  • Mr. Wow

James looks…strange. And why a grey shirt?

Marisa. Love her and she’s a beauty.  Nix on the dress.  But a high mark for trying to go glam in a vintage way.

    9:53 pm | February 27, 2011
  • Mr. Wow

Cate.  This is truly ugly.  Sorry. But you are a great actress.

    9:54 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Jessica Burnette

I couldn’t watch because I had to work, but I did get to look at the pics of everyone’s arrival and I though Cate B and Nicole K looked awesome.  Especially Nicole, I wish I was tall enough to make a dress like that look as good on me!  I thought Scarlett Johanssen looked good, too.  Some of the girls here chastised her “see-through” dress.  I thought she looked great (even the hair!). 🙂

      3:39 am | February 28, 2011
    • CatA

I so agree, Mr. Wow. Cate the Great has made some weird, but passable wardrobe moves before (the yellow dress with red sash), but this dress was a catastrophe.  The bodice-over-the-flowing-material thing seemed somewhat similar to Anne Hathaway’s lovely creme colored gown. But those fold-over sleeves were bizarre, and topped off with that gag-reaction yellow stuff around the neck and back.  YUCK!
But you should have seen all the glowing comments on the Daily Mail website — the Brits were raving about her classy look and quirky yet elegant gown.  It belongs in the closet with Bjoerk’s swan dress, if you ask me.

      6:43 am | March 3, 2011
  • J G

Richard, Of course we know that you are not putting down cancer. They did have a strange bromance.
Mr. Wow, I was sure you would have changed your mind re: Cate’s dress. I think she looks stunning tonight.

    9:56 pm | February 27, 2011
    • Mr. Wow

I’m sorry.  I tried.  SHE looks stunning.  And I’m sure she loves her dress.  That’s what matters.

Mandy Moore.  Bad posture.  I do think I like this gown.  Well….from the waist down.  She needed more business with her hair. Slightly bigger hair.  To balance out that flounce.

Not much singing happening.  Is that a good thing?  I always enjoyed the bad production numbers.

      10:06 pm | February 27, 2011
      • J G

Ok, don’t mind me while I get catty for a moment.
I didn’t understand the whole point of the Mandy Moore number. Bad Posture, bad close up, bad lighting, boring song, wrong hair, bad dress.
        There. And it was boring.
And I wouldn’t call it a bad production number like the good ole days when Billy Cristal (sp) ran the show.
        That was just dull….

        10:09 pm | February 27, 2011
        • Richard Bassett

All of those ‘Lion King’ “Finding Nemo’ ‘Cinderella’ cartoon movie songs all sound the same to me. I  actually noticed and liked Mandy’s dress….for the song that she did.

Thanks Mr. wOw for keeping us posted.
I’ve been switching back and forth between The Oscar’s and episode three of Any Human Heart on PBS Masterpiece Classics.  Fortunately, I think I caught most of the awards that were announced.  There were a few surprises.  Um… I’m still rooting for The King’s Speech for the top award, however I won’t be too surprised it the Oscar goes to The Social Network.  After all, it appeals to a much broader and younger demographic – as in all those 40, 30, and young 20 ‘something’ Facebook users.

Oh!  Oprah.  Guess what?  I saw her show on Friday with Diana Ross … thanks to Liz Smith.  It was great seeing Diana with her family.  She [Diana] looked wonderful with a few extra pounds.

    • Richard Bassett

I was talking to Randy Taraborrelli (a Liz Taylor biography writer) about the Ross appearence. Yes, she was fabulous and Oprah was just a fan. Diana never goes into too much detail of her personal life…so I really couldn’t call it an interview. She still has her pipes!

  • Mr. Wow

    OPRAH.

Whoa!  THis is how a bountiful  woman with a billion dollars and six hours to get ready ought to dress.  However, she’s suffering just a bit not being to control her lighting, as she does on her own show.  I love her hair.

And I’m no Oprah fan in general.  I am glad  she’s allowed nature to take its course, more or less.  She never looked good to me when she was slim.

    10:22 pm | February 27, 2011

I haven’t commented  yet, but will jump in and say it is very broing this year…yawn. What is wrong with it anyway? Think they need an older host who is a comedian to liven it up. It just d-r-a-g-s endlessly.

The Oscar ceremonies reflect the year in films. Pretty evenly paced, nothing standing out beyond perfection, so that is what we get. Anne H and James F are just not MC material. Why they agreed to do it, I’ll never know. The rehearsals must have given them SOME indication.

    10:58 pm | February 27, 2011

Just thought I’d pop in and since I’m not watching I can’t comment.  But will catch the “fashion show” tomorrow and may comment on that.  Do I miss it? Not at all.  Last year was the last year. I miss the old Hollywood.  About the only remnant of it is the Vanity Fair party and that is more the new Hollywood than the old Hollywood and filled with more “wannabe-photographed-with-the-stars-and-pretend-I’m-one-of-them” types than people who really are “one of them.”

I am curious as to whether anyone wished Elizabeth Taylor a happy birthday from the podium.

Natalie’s tassel eaarings. The jury’s out.

Michelle was brilliant, I must say.

Jesus!   Natalie.  Oh, well.  She’s beautiful and talented and sincere.  But why this year?  She has so much time.  Quite disappointed.

You know I miss the Chateau Marmont.  The old one. Pre-Lindsay Lohan. Oh, the Richard Gere stories. That I will never tell.  Fun back then. But, well, what a dump. I can say that and get away with it since no one knows who I am.

Colin Firth.  Welll…crap.  Lindsay’s parties are always such fun.  And you can always pick up odd bits of jewelry.

    Seriously—Colin, thank goodness!

Well, I’ll bow out now and read about Best Pic tomorrow. Night all. Thanks Mr WoW, for providing the platform. It was fun. The show, uneventful, but, like you…I’ve seen worse.

I am still hopeful that “The King’s Speech” will nab Best Picture.  Iffy at this point, despite Hooper’s win.

I won’t cry over “The Social Network” winning.  Just…pout a bit. (Never an attractive look after the age of 40)

Spielberg…he’s made plenty of crap, too.  I just like to remind people.

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  THe King’s Speech.

Thank goodness, no pouting.  Honest, at 58 it’s such a grim thing to observe.

    Congrats, Harvey Weinstein.

Well all I know apparently is that The King’s Speech won best picture. Which was not a surprise. I guess I’ll check the rundown on Yahoo or something of who else won.

Anne’s last gown….I like this!  Keep it, honey.

    Eh, I out now.

THANK YOU, my wonderful readers here.  You were brave and sweet to stick around or check in now and then.

Good night, god bless, I love you!   (Yeah, Judy’s final words on the Carnegie Hall album–these kids are singing “Over the Rainbow”—it came to me.)

Yea to The King’s Speech!  What a WONDERFUL ending!  The children’s choir was the Pièce de résistance.

The children’s choir was a nice touch – in theory.  Unfortunately, they were all such well-trained little seals, with their moves, and their perfect look-into-the camera smiles.  Such a “perfect performance” that it seemed to lack any sincerity.  I guess to hear a touching rendition, I’ll just continue to listen to Judy or Iz’s versions of this lovely song.

Nobody has mentioned the Kirk Douglas segment! I felt such sympathy for him.  However it is time to hang up the tap shoes and get off the stage!  What can the academy been thinking of?

Dear LL…actually, I did mention it as it was happening.  What to say?  Old age ain’t for sissies. Or egomaniacs who can’t get off the stage.
I felt embarassed and then ashamed of my own embarassment. I’ll be there someday, one way or another.

There seemed to be a lot missing last night. Like the usual suspects – Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Meryl Streep, and others that usually show up on red carpets like toadstools after the rain. Did I just miss them? The whole show was OK but not memorable. I watched most of it but found myself picking up a book and reading a bit here and there. I think it was missing a lot of pizazz or oomph or something.

One question – what’s so great about Nicole Kidman? The only thing I’ve seen her in that I liked was a movie she did before her face froze in which she played an overly ambitious would-be newscaster. Everything after that has been kind of blah. HATED Moulin Rouge.

And condolences about your cat. It’s always very hard to lose a pet.

Dear Haunted One…thank you on the cat (Sweetie)  It was a shock, tho we knew her heart was bad.   Peaceful, in her sleep.

As for Miss Kidman, “To Die For” was her greatest performance–tho I did enjoy “Malice” and the epic she did with Tom, “Far and Away.”  And she gave a masterful turn in “Birth” which has a great cult following.  (Miss Bacall is wonderful in that as well)  Her appearance works against her–too thin and strained. (I think the Botox stories are inflated but she has had some alterations.)

I lost the last of the litter that the mother decided to leave with my dog almost 20 years ago about this time last year.  I buried her by a tree in the little park next door. In the dead of night. Not really supposed to do such things.  But she loved to go sit out there.

Tweedle Dee. She had a “twin” named Tweedle Dum. Tuxedo cats. And you could not tell them apart except by their name.  No dumbies these cats.  Tweedle Dum took off after one move. Months later I spotted her on a walk.  She came up to me and rubbed my leg. Then this woman called out to her. “Jezebel.”  I told her about Tweedle Dum. And left her there. And told the woman she was more Jezebel than Tweedle Dum. I ran into that woman in the fall.  Tweedle Dum died about the same time Tweedle Dee did.

Now if you like cats, Mr. Wow, not to worry.  One will appear at your door soon to steal your heart again. They always do mine anyway.

Another cat ran off as well. When I moved to a condo around the corner, there he was in a window. Knew it was him.  My new neighbor who I told the story to finally said something to the people. They claimed they adopted him at the shelter when he was a kitten. But my neighbor knew it was him. What are the odds of there being two obnoxious tuxedo cats that have the curious habit of “marking” someone they don’t like?  Not “marking” really because he was fixed. But you get the picture.

I haven’t seen Malice or Birth but have tried to watch Far And Away a few times. Unfortunately, it always puts me to sleep. Must be me. I’ll look for the other two and see what happens.

    Mr. wOw–
Well, bless you for tuning in and hosting here.
From what I read, it looks like another year of “improving” the Oscars has failed.
And the PR about making it more youth-oriented made me laugh. Older Hollywood has not been represented in years.
Aside from kicking myself to tune in to see if it would be better, and then it is not, I just knew that Annette Bening would be passed over yet again. Nothing against Natalie, but really…
And second, what with all the silly bits and time wasters, they couldn’t acknowledge Elizabeth Taylor. The AP announced she’d be watching… from her hospital bed… after a serious illness… on her birthday… 50 years after she accepted her first Oscar barely a month after almost dying of pneumonia… one of AIDS greatest activists…and one of Hollywood’s greatest stars. Shame on the Oscar producers and the Academy!
This is why awards shows and new Hollywood turn my stomach.

Dear Rick…nope, they were too busy getting James Franco into drag to think of Miss Taylor in her hospital bed.

As Baby Snooks said  F**k em!”

James Franco was in ‘drag’?  I didn’t see that part … I was switching back and forth watching the last episode of Any Human Heart.
I agree that Miss Taylor should have been honored in some way.

The photos are on the internet. Suffice it to say James Franco will not be cast as Marilyn Monroe any time soon.  As for the fashion show, well, borrowed gowns and borrowed jewels. My only real comment is someone got the gowns and jewels mixed up in some cases.  Suffice it to say Mr. Blackwell would have loved it.

It’s all really quite boring. One reason may be that is really quite commercial at this point. In a way the “show” itself is a commercial.  For designers and jewelers.

I was a blip on the radar  of Hollywod long ago.  Hollywood I guess has become just a blip on mine. What happens when you get jaded too young.

Sorry I could not join you last night, my computer went nuts.  The highlights for me was seeing Kirk Douglas and the kids from Staten Island.  The rest was very boring.

Dear Rho…sorry about your computer!  To be honest, facing six and  half hours blogging live on this nonsense, I was kinda hoping my  own computer would go nuts.

Alas, it was not to be and so I babbled on and on.

Mr. Douglas borught up a variety of strong emotions.

The kids were more than all right!

Scarlett’s hair!  She had the just rolled out of bed look and while I thought she could carry off anything; this wasn’t one of the things she could.

    James Franco — awful.

Kirk Douglas — while admirable, still on too long and started really making me uncomfortable…he should have someone, perhaps Michael, up there with him and it would have worked.

Billy Crystal — love him as always, but he needed a longer spot.

Loved, loved, loved the “Late Bloomer” speech — how nice.
