Mr. Wow Commands—Okay He Hopes Against Hope—That Women Can Rebel In Sufficient Numbers to Stop Texas, Ohio and Other Female-Hating States From Demeaning and Destroying Them!    Oh, and Bit of Secession Musing.

This is not Well Thought Out Opining.  This is an Intemperate Rant.

It was good news that the vile, sexist, execution-happy, not terribly bright Rick Perry will not be running for Gov. of Texas again.  I guess he figures he done the damage he wanted to do, and now it’s time to relax.  Maybe he’ll get off on stories of women forced to have babies they don’t want, or kept from health facilities for issues that have nothing to do with abortion.  I suppose the same goes for the even sleazier Gov. John Kasich of Ohio.  (But now we have to contend the real possibility of Perry lurching toward  the presidency in three years. Again. )

If women are forced to bear children, I want the men responsible for knocking them up taken into custody and given a vasectomy.  Why not?  If the state wishes to control a woman’s body, they should certainly control a man’s.  It takes two to make a fetus. Cut off his balls.  Less pregnancies, yes?  Or do Republicans think those evil women spontaneously conceive?

If only it was possible for all women who don’t wish to be slaves to a man’s ideological bullshit, to flee these states in droves, by the hundreds, the thousands. Economically it would be disastrous for these barbarous states and their antediluvian politicians, who dribble religion out of their alternately slack, or terrifyingly hard, soulless faces.

But the bigger issue for me, is that—and I kid you not—I think it’s time for Texas to secede from the Union.  Along with most of the Southern states. Does anybody really think the Civil War was ever “won.”  Forget it.  We are polarized as never before.  So many fear the inevitable café au lait  population that will dominate in a generation or two.  The election of a man of color to the presidency had driven these people to the brink of madness.  Not that the North was much better for blacks after the Civil War—and for decades after.  The South wanted them as slaves.  The North wanted them as maids and shoeshine boys, train porters, elevator operators.  It was a slightly better life, but you still better know your place. And after welfare came to be, a lost generation of African Americans became even more lost.  The intention was good, the application haphazard at best.

I’m not going to pretend I know what would happen if the South seceded.  Or even just Texas.  (Poor Austin, a bastion of civility in the middle of the endless executions and womb invasions.)    But I sure wouldn’t mourn the loss.  And I haven’t traveled to other Southern states, so I’d never know what I was missing.  My traveling days are pretty much over, anyway.   I might like to see the Greek Islands once, or Rome, London, Paris or Venice, one more time.  But…I ain’t aching to get on a plane.

It probably doesn’t make much—if any!– sense, my fantasy.  For one thing, how would it look to our “allies” and enemies?   A weakening country going under. But I can’t help worrying that sooner or later, we will have another civil war.  Bloody and ghastly beyond imagining.  We are a softer, lazier people now, but inured to violence in so many ways.  It would be like a big video game to many.  (And which side of the States has more atomic missiles?)

By the way, I don’t mean to offend any of you who live in, and love the South. Or are Southern. I know there are plenty of great people there.  I know terrific Southerners myself—almost invariably charming people.  But the division in our country is an inescapable fact.  I worry. I feel separation is best.  And inevitable.

I also know it’s an idiotic proposition for a dying empire to put into action.   Why hasten our fall?

P.S. I am glad the judge in the Zimmerman case allowed the jury to consider manslaughter and aggravated assault.  Zimmerman was overcharged, creep that he is.   I think manslaughter will suit him fine. (He won’t serve much time, but even a couple of years in prison might dissuade him of the belief that what happened was “God’s will.”  (As he told the holy of Holies, Mr. Sean Hannity.)

One way or another I’ll be happy when this crap is off the air.  Student Loans?  Egypt?  Real News??!!!

Oh, when/if the country is divided, please send Geraldo Rivera down South.  I’d like to see how long his ass lasts.  He will be very surprised.

The polarization if our country is horrifying.  I don’t have a clue how to fix any of it. I do know I wouldn’t miss Texas or several other Southern states. Don’t think they will secede, too much federal help to lose.
Zimmerman is a creep. I have not watched on second of the trial but I have thought from the beginning that he is guilty of manslaughter.
    Glad you posted!  xo

Dear Deirdre…obviously, my floundering post shows I have clue either.  But every year it seems to get worse.

Manslaughter.  That’s it.  That’s the most to expect and what it is, actually.  Zimmerman is just a miserable human being and I sure hope however he is sentenced, he is charged never to carry a gun again.  I have avoided the minute-by-minute aspects of the trial.  I’ve watched many episodes of “Love it or List It” and “House Hunters.”   Oddly addictive.

Isn’t “shocking” to see and hear whatvZimmerman has been up to since his acquittal? Speeding, posing for pictures in a gun factory, speeding again and causing a disturbance while his soon to be ex wife was moving her belongings out of the house they had been staying in. Such a fine upstanding citizen.

Oh, yeah, “shocking” LOLOL From what I understand, the jurors felt he was NOT innocent but the state didn’t prove its case. Big difference but not to the people who wanted him to walk.

  • Mr. Wow, rant away!
Zimmerman-  I expect he will not be convicted of 2d degree murder mainly on the strength of GSR forensics indicating Martin was the one on top at the moment he was shot.  I am glad the jury can consider lesser charges, though, because I don’t think it was reasonable… even if it was legal… to follow and confront Martin after stalking him.  As others have written, why should Martin not have had the right to stand HIS ground and defend himself against some weird creep who seemed “up to no good” in HIS mind?  I think Zimmerman’s actions at least precipitated Martin’s unjustified death, even if technically he did not do anything illegal.
Texas…  If only women WOULD flee the state in droves.  Or at least refuse to put out.

    12:17 am | July 13, 2013
    • Mr. Wow

Dear Lila–refuse to put out?  I see you are familiar with that fine Greek woman, Lysistrata!

Yes, a young man being aggressively approached and followed at night by a gun-wielding man?  Trayvon had the right to stand his ground.  (As the prosecution pointed out, if Zimmerman was carrying the gun tucked inside the back of his belt, how did Martin even see it, to “grab” it?)

      10:00 am | July 13, 2013
      • Hm, Lysistrata… in the play, the women were soon just as horny and desperate as the men.  And I don’t think it ever did bring about the end of the Peloponnesian War….

Dear Lila–well, it was just a play.  Women have urges too, and nobody can ever stop war.  Unfortunately.   Still, high marks to those women for giving it the old Acropolis try.

    What a terrific rant!!!

I cannot remember which ‘legal eagle’ said it over the last weeks of the trial, but it remains a sad comment on our country when anyone who is minding their own business walking home carrying a bag of skittles and soft drink is automatically assumed to be a troublemaker –

As to the men who live in the ‘dark ages’ and show no respect to woman – why don’t they all move to a country where women are treated like ‘property’ and leave the good citizens of Texas and other states alone to live in peace and happiness?

Maybe this time if Governor Perry decides to run again he will hire someone to teach him about the branches of government, the members of the President’s Cabinet, and how to appear knowledgeable during a debate

And I agree with Lila – All woman should refuse to ‘put out’ if they are treated unfairly by any man.  After all – it is questionable where some men’s brains are on their body.

Hi Mr. WoW–Zimmerman will probably and rightfully be convicted of manslaughter.  I have watched quite a bit of the trial but I will be happy when this is over and done with.  How did this particular case become such a sensation…just wondering.
As for Texas and the rest of the southern states, be my guest, secede from the Union, you will not be missed.  Not even a little.
Glad to hear from you so keep those posts coming.
My best to you and B.

  • Delusional

If Al Sharpton and his goons brought about anything to do with this case, it was the brilliant move of imprinting into public consciousness the doe eyed innocent looking photo of Mr. Martin. Hard to imagine the angelic creature as aggressor, or ever talking back to his Mama. In spite of some pretty remarkable testimony, prejudice shall have its day and Mr. Zimmerman will be caught in the net.  From reliable accounts, the neighborhood was a hotbed of anxiety due to a series of house break-ins by, yes, black teenagers, who sometimes found their tenants at home. Casting Mr. Zimmerman as the white man is interesting despite his Hispanic origins.  On another matter, any ideas why Lance Armstrong is allowed to run free when Marion Jones was dragged off to prison leaving children behind ? Would they have jailed a white woman in like circumstances?

    3:53 pm | July 13, 2013
    • Mr. Wow

      Dear Delusional…

Trayvon Martin wasn’t breaking into anybody’s home.  But those who wish to see Zimmerman walk away don’t really care.   As for  MSNBC’s disgrace, Mr. Sharpton, a more loathsome  or ignorant person I cannot imagine.  Oh, wait–maybe Mr. Zimmerman.  Oh, wait–maybe Geraldo Rivera…

Since you have taken the liberty to abuse the south and Rick Perry in particular, you might want to fling some arrows at your very own New York for allowing two scumbags to make comebacks after destroying their careers in notorious scandals degrading women.

      I agree with you, Lila.

      • Mr. Wow

Dear Rho and Lila…did either of you catch the Piers Morgan interview with Zimmerman’s appallingly smug, insensitive brother?  (Unfortunately, he is an articulate, smug and insensitive man.)   I’ve heard this guy–who had very little to do with his brother for years–speak previously.  He always made my skin crawl.  That he would suggest, last night, that Trayvon was in the neighborhood to buy guns or marijuana…he couldn’t even muster up some phony words of compassion for Trayvon or his parents.  Piece of work.

I don’t think George Zimmerman has much of a life ahead of him.  In terms of ever feeling safe, ever “relaxing.”  But for the Zimmerman brother?  I see a great future career on Fox News.

        11:12 am | July 14, 2013
        • Rho

No, I did not watch him.

          11:36 am | July 14, 2013
        • I did not see it either.  I find Piers Morgan sort of nauseating.  No surprise that he has nauseating interviews with other nauseating people.

    Dear Delusional…

I have no use or love for Spitzer or Weiner.  Though the latter didn’t (so far as we know) cavort with prostitutes.   Everybody deserves a second chance.  Unless you are determined to take away personal liberties, and intrude on people’s private lives and personal decisions.  Then you don’t deserve a second chance.

As for Mr. Zimmerman he will lead a guilt-free life (because God, apparently approved of his killing of Mr. Martin. )   I don’t wish any violence upon him, I hope he simply takes himself and his family away.  To another country.   Maybe someday he’ll grow a conscience.  Unlikely, but now he has all his freedom to possibly contemplate his action.

    • Rho

As for Weiner, I knew him very well.  This thing he did really surprised me.  I also have no use for him anymore.

Well, I live in Ohio and worry about my grandaughters. These horrific and appalling laws, as well as John Kasich are an embarrassment to anyone with brains who lives here. The man actually has two daughters himself. Why would anyone want to take away choice. Agree – lets let the irresponsible guys have forced vasectomies.
The Zimmerman case didn’t surprise me at all. I do see a civil suit in the making.
And yes, I think the country will end up mixed race. Who cares. And why.

I haven’t followed the Zimmerman debacle at all and, therefore, have no comment.

On the matter of women’s rights, especially reproductive rights, I have lots of comments. I’ll keep it brief, though.

What these jokers fail to understand is that any woman who is determined to end an unwanted pregnancy will find a way to do it. I remember the days before Roe v. Wade and the unconscionable numbers of women who died as a result of butchery by quacks. There was a photograph once, I think in Ms. magazine, of a woman lying dead in a large pool of her own blood due to a botched abortion. I’ve never forgotten it and it hardened my belief that women have an absolute right to proper care whether it’s an abortion or anything else. The Supreme Court decision made it possible for women to have safe, clean abortions if they chose to end a pregnancy.

Not only do I resent the holier-than-thou a$$holes who feel they have a right to tell women what to do, I become enraged by women who don’t get it. The point is the right to choose and to have access to a procedure with minimal risk of death. If you don’t believe in abortion or don’t want to have one, then don’t. It’s really simple. As for the aforementioned male a$$holes, when a man can get pregnant and have to face the same things a woman does, then he has a right to say something. Until then, he can piss off.

Finally, where are these anti-choice, anti-woman twits when the child is born? Do they step up and adopt the kid? Did they contribute to the prenatal care and delivery?

As for the South, like anywhere else, people are people. Some are nice, some aren’t. I have a couple of cousins who are proud Southerners. Unfortunately, no one has informed them that growing up in southern Michigan and then retiring to Florida does not make them Southerners.

    11:20 am | July 15, 2013
  • Mimi

I am a staunch pro-choice Catholic. Stating that first. I also remember women dying from botched abortions. I knew one woman – a mother of seven children – who joyfully went to jail for three weeks because she continued to picket an abortion clinic even after a restraining order was in place. Who in the world would abandon their OWN children to go to jail to force other women to have unwanted babies. Absolutely the stupidest idea ever. 20 years later I’m still angry. We as a country have very specific laws for the separation of church and state. Personally, I think that one should be the one enforced.

    8:12 pm | July 17, 2013
    • maryburdt

Mimi–I think the woman with the seven kids went joyfully to jail because she was TIRED and wanted some peace and quiet.

If she wanted peace and quiet, she shouldn’t have had 7 kids.

I’m writing a movie about Mr. Redstone called “Suddenly, Last Sumner”.

  • Mimi

Oddly, with all the abortion ranting going on – that particular mother is still the focus of my ranting. If she and her husband wanted seven kids and could provide for them – great!
But what she did meant that her kids, several in diapers, had to be farmed out for three weeks. There was a constant plea for meals for this family because the HUSBAND should certainly not be expected to come home from work and prepare, clean up after, do laundry and in general do what all the single parents of the world do.
I still see it as one of the most selfish acts in the world.
Everyone should be entitled to decide what to do with their own body. Not everyone in the US believes that life begins at conception. I, personally feel that this should finally be laid to rest and let women decide for themselves.
Mr Wow, I apologize for hijacking your rant with one of my own. Please forgive me.

I am thrilled to see you letting loose in Social Diary today about something that people should still be hollering about. If GLADD is the new voice of gay activism, you’re in trouble. Former ACT OUT militants must be grave spinning non-stop. The reason the AIDS epidemic is no longer considered an epidemic is because the poor and minorities make up most new cases. Cruel, fashionable, elitism among the current gay leadership has pretty much abandoned this cause.

Having my morning cup of coffee here in Portland, where I am at this summer, suddenly this summer…the way its flying by!
And it was lovely to see a part of Liz Smith’s column with the spotlight on the man who helps her mightily, Mr. W!
I totally agree with what you had to say, too. I spend part of my time in my hometown in Upper MI. And there are a number of gay folks just living their lives…and the community is fine with it. When I finally came out to my folks, they had been watching cable shows where gays and lesbians were featured…and I think it created more understanding than all the political posturing (on both sides) in the world…
Plugging away in school here in Portland.I hope you, Mr. W, are hanging in there. My sister back in MI has been indulging herself with TCM’s Summer under the Stars, where they devote a day to a particular star. She FB’ed me to let me know she was going to watch Lana in Peyton Place and Imitation of Life for the one millionth time!Luckily, I don’t have a TV or I would be weeping with Lana instead of writing.
Big hug to you, and shout out to the fellow friends of Mr. W. ; )

I’ve watched the house hunting shows on HGTV for 3 or 4 years now and have noticed that same sex couples are not treated any differently than other couples. There’s no big announcement or any big whoop-de-do about it. It’s nice that way and shows acceptance of these couples as people, just people, that’s all.

I really appreciate hearing your perspective, Mr. W. It increases my understanding.

    Mr. WoW,
Such a cute photo in the Liz column – you really are amazingly photogenic. Still sober, such an accomplishment. Congrats, I bet you feel better than ever. I got into drinking less, eating better and exercising this summer and I feel so much better for it.
I know there are many political problems facing almost every minority group, but what I keep focusing on is how far we have come in a relatively short time. That is a BIG thing we should all be proud of as a society. There’s more work to be done, obviously, but a LOT has been accomplished. I think we forget that.
I am not that old, and I remember a time when a friend of mine came out and his parents disowned him. Now, they are all one big happy family. People hate change, but life is change, and the only way for growth is to accept the change or be left behind.
As for the AIDS virus, I just read that there is a new form of Gonorrhea that is immune to all antibiotics. They said, this new strain will wreak more havoc than AIDS ever did – Yikes, how can that be possible. Seems we go one foot forward and two feet back.

Lot of classic movie references in Liz Smith’s column of late, which of course, makes me think of you!
We’ve had hot, hot, hot weather in Portland, OR this summer. So guess what me and my roommates watched? Yes, “In the Heat of the Night.” Never really saw it, all I remember is hearing as a kid, “The call me Mr. Tibbs!”  Anyway, it’s still highly watchable, and the small town they filmed it in the ’60s reminded me of my hometown. It blew our minds to think that Sidney Poitier was literally the only black leading man back in the ’60s. Sidenote: Lee Grant does some very “method” acting upon learning of her husband’s death!
    Cheers to you, Mr. W!

Alive and well…trying hard w the drinking.  Pretty good, but not as good as it could be. (I’m so happy having four days off–no “lunching” in city.) Lots to rant about, but I think next time I’d like in part to tell some of the really positive things that have happened here around the house.  B. has stunned me, and I feel I must pull myself out of my periodic funks and totally appreciate what he’s doing. I mean, I do appreciate it. I don’t think I show it enough. But that’s what happens when you feel you’re getting smaller and smaller. Every day is a fight for personal survival. You love and want your friends, but can ever escape the feeling they don’t want you anymore.  You can’t blame them.  And that just makes you smaller.

Still, like I said, some fairly significant home-centered thing have happened.

Otherwise, if you read around you pretty much know what’s on my mind, in many ways.  (Not just  movie stuff.)

      Love,Mr. W

The world is a little depressing at the moment for all of us I suspect.  I’m on my soapbox about the Republicans. May get a T-shirt to wear around.  “Save America. Vote for Democrats in 2014 and 2016.”  And since I’m in Texas, “Don’t think about it. I have PMS and a gun” on the back…

Elizabeth Taylor’s children set up a photo page on Facebook. They deleted it last week for some reason. Maybe they ran out of photos. But it was shocking to see it gone.  I guess because she was so vibrant and now there’s not much left of the vibrance. Just photos. And the memories.  It depressed the hell out of me for some reason.

Mr. Wow,I’m watching the Emmys and thinking of you. My husband is asleep and snoring, and I’m remembering a few times during these award shows you’ve let me into your world with a live chat, dissing and hissing and having an all around fun time.
Hope you are well and enjoying the show.XOJamie

Since Mr. Wow seems to be absent – think he is busy being ‘Miss Smith’ , I will post this…right up his alley.

There is a new project, a movie staring Nathan Lane called No Pay, Nudity that is being funded through kickstart.com   I love the idea and thought some of you who love movies would find it interesting as well.

Miss all of our fun interaction and am thinking we need to all dig out our Halloween costumes and head to Mr.Wow and B’s house for Halloween chili and candy apples

Over $10million worth of Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry goes on display in Bulgari’s first-ever U.S. retrospective

    • One of the items on view was part of Taylor’s ‘Emerald Suite’ that she wore to appearances around the globe
    • Another piece, the Sapphire Sautoir, was last sold at Christie’s for over $5.9 million in 2011

Bulgari jewelry once worn by Elizabeth Taylor has gone on display as part of the brand’s first U.S. retrospective in San Francisco.

The Art of Bulgari: La Dolce Vita & Beyond, held at the de Young Fine Arts Museum, gives visitors an up-close look at some of the jewelry house’s most refined works from the mid to late 20th century, including many pieces that once belonged to Taylor herself.

The exhibit’s yards of diamonds, emeralds, and sapphires provide a rare glance at impeccable jewel-making craftsmanship, with many never-before-seen items valued at millions of dollars.
Bulgari is known for its lavish designs that often incorporate brightly colored precious gems and heavy metalwork.

Blue crush: The Sapphire Sautoir, a sautoir necklace bearing a 52.72-carat sugarloaf cabochon sapphire sold for more than $5.9 million at a 2011 Christie’s auction.

Those very calling cards have attracted high-profile customers including Sophia Loren and Ingrid Bergman, as well as Taylor, whose embattled relationship with actor Richard Burton famously resulted in multiple Bulgari purchases at the brand’s Rome boutique.

Eight of the exhibit’s approximately 150 total pieces once belonged to Taylor. They include an emerald and diamond collar with a detachable brooch that was part of the film star’s ‘emerald suite’, a miniature collection of exquisite emerald pieces. The piece sold for over $6.5 million at a massive 2011 Christie’s auction of items from Taylor’s jewelry and fashion.

Diamond bouquet: Bulgari’s ‘Tremblant’ brooch from 1962 is comprised of platinum, fancy yellow diamonds, and diamonds

The Sapphire Sautoir, a sautoir necklace bearing a 52.72-carat sugarloaf cabochon sapphire that also belonged to Taylor, is included in the retrospective as well. It sold for more than $5.9 million at the same Christie’s auction.

Taylor is not the only actress represented in the de Young exhibit. A set of diamond bracelets that once belonged to Ellen Barkin are also on view.

The retrospective is currently open to the public and will run through February 17, 2014.

‘You saved my life’: Bisexual teen kicked out of home by his stepmother overwhelmed after strangers raise more than $20,000 to help his plight

      • Nick, an 18-year-old freshman at Kennesaw State University, Georgia, was kicked out by his parents last month after they found out he was bisexual
      • His vindictive step-mom also had his car repossessed and drained his savings account of all his money
      • A co-worker took pity on him and has been letting him sleep on her couch
      • Now total strangers have raised more than $20,000 to help the young man get his life back on track

Not only was Nick left homeless, but his parents left all his stuff in the front yard and told him to come pick it up before it got stolen.cxNick, an 18-year-old freshman at Kennesaw State University, Georgia, was forced to leave home last month after his step mom and father found out he was bisexualWhen Nick showed up to collect his belongings, the police were on hand and he claims that officers threatened to arrest him if he came back. Then while the teen was at work as a bag boy at a local supermarket, his parents came and took away his car. He maintains that even though the vehicle was registered in their name, it was he who made the monthly payments for it.
As if all that wasn’t bad enough, his parents even withdrew all his savings which they were able to do because his bank accounts were ‘custodial accounts’. Fortunately for Nick, a woman who works with him was there in his hour of need and has allowed him to sleep on her couch since.
The woman’s son-in-law Steve Bevers then set-up a crowd funding page on October 22 to help raise money for the freshman and to show him that even if his parents didn’t love him there were others who did.
‘We have taken him in, and are committed to keeping him on track. But he will need to find a place to live soon (He is welcome on our couch as long as he needs, but everyone deserves a bed to call their own) and a car to help him get around,’ reads a message from Bevers on the GoFundMe page.xThe Georgia teenager has been overwhelmed after strangers online raised more than $20,000 towards helping him get his life back on track‘Had his parents not emptied his accounts, he could have paid a deposit, got into an apartment, and found a new car, but he was left with nothing.’
‘We’re working to show Nick that he is loved, even by strangers,’ he added. ‘That the horrible acts of some people will not be enough to stop him, and that with the help of people everywhere, he can get through this.’
The results have been extremely encouraging and in just 12 days more than 600 people have raised over $21,000 for Nick.
The teen has been overwhelmed by the support he has received and on October 24, he uploaded a video to tell supporters his story and offer his thanks.
In the video he revealed that he did not choose to tell his father and stepmother about his sexuality because of how they would respond.
‘This whole thing started when my stepmom caught wind of me being bisexual,’ he said. ‘I don’t know where she got her information from, but I know it wasn’t from me.
‘She didn’t like that and neither did my dad. I got told some very vulgar and disgusting things… That’s why I didn’t tell them, because I wasn’t ready. And I didn’t tell them for the exact reaction I was scared about, and that’s exactly what happened.’
In a second video uploaded last Wednesday, Nick revealed that he is trying to get registered for the spring semester of school and is hoping to put some of the donation money toward getting himself a car.
‘You guys pretty much saved my life,’ he said to those people who have already donated to the crowdfunding effort.Video: Bisexual teen speaks out after strangers raise money to help him out

I read about this yesterday. Unbelievable how some parents choose to treat their children just because of who the children are.
Thank you for posting this here.

Well at least we know he is alive.  He was in New York Social Diary today. And he was smiling. Might have been one too many cocktails. But, well, he’s smiling.  So I will cancel my reservations for Hoboken….
